Siren Jiu Jitsu is a woman-owned small business dedicated to providing quality girls' martial arts instruction. Our female-led coach is here to help young girls ages 6-12 achieve their jiu jitsu goals in a safe, supportive environment. We focus on empowering girls through Brazilian jiu jitsu training that builds confidence, strength, and self-defense skills. Choose Siren for personalized attention and expert instruction that helps your daughter succeed in martial arts.
Girls' Jiu Jitsu Instructor, Coach Julia Blackburn, is the co-owner and head girls' jiu jitsu instructor at Siren, bringing championship-level experience to young martial artists in Newport News. As a multiple jiu jitsu tournament winner and devoted aunt, Coach Julia combines competitive expertise with gentle, encouraging teaching methods perfect for young girls. Her patient approach helps young students feel confident and supported while learning Brazilian jiu jitsu fundamentals. Coach Julia's passion for empowering young girls through martial arts makes her the ideal instructor for your daughter's jiu jitsu journey.
Our Little Sirens girls' program teaches essential jiu jitsu positions and self-defense techniques while developing confidence, personal agency, and physical strength. Young students learn how to protect their bodies through proper Brazilian jiu jitsu fundamentals in our Newport News martial arts studio. Each class focuses on age-appropriate skills that build both physical capabilities and mental resilience. Through structured jiu jitsu training, girls develop problem-solving skills, body awareness, and the confidence to handle challenging situations.
No Contracts Required
Siren offers month-to-month girls' jiu jitsu memberships with no long-term contracts, plus one free trial class for new students. Each girl receives a complimentary Siren Jiu Jitsu athletic top upon enrollment and can earn collectible iron-on patches monthly to track her martial arts progress. Our flexible membership structure allows families to commit at their own pace while ensuring consistent, quality jiu jitsu instruction. No contracts mean you can focus on your daughter's martial arts growth without financial pressure.
Each 35-minute girls' jiu jitsu class includes dynamic warm-ups, age-appropriate skills learning, partner practice, and fun martial arts games designed for ages 6-12. Classes conclude with 10 minutes of supervised open mat play time where girls can practice techniques and build friendships. Our structured yet playful approach keeps young students engaged while learning essential Brazilian jiu jitsu fundamentals. Every class balances serious martial arts instruction with age-appropriate activities that make learning jiu jitsu enjoyable for young girls.
Brazilian jiu jitsu is a contact sport, so we ask parents to either stay during girls' classes or remain within a 5-minute radius of our Newport News location. Parents often find it enjoyable to watch their daughters learn martial arts techniques and can practice basic movements at home together. This involvement helps reinforce jiu jitsu learning while strengthening the parent-child bond through shared martial arts experiences. Our welcoming environment encourages family participation in your daughter's jiu jitsu development.

Your daughter should wear comfortable athletic clothes that allow for easy movement during jiu jitsu training. We recommend fitted athletic wear like leggings or shorts with a t-shirt that won't get in the way during martial arts practice. Avoid clothing with zippers, buttons, or jewelry that could cause injury during classes.
Our girls' martial arts classes are designed for ages 6-12, but we welcome girls who are turning 6 soon or are about to age out of the program. If your daughter is close to either age boundary, contact Coach Julia at julia@sirenjiujitsu.com to discuss how we can accommodate her.
Girls can join our jiu jitsu program any time during the program June 5th to August - you don't need to wait for a specific start date. Our Monday and Thursday 6 PM classes are designed so new students can integrate seamlessly regardless of when they begin. Coach Julia will ensure your daughter feels welcome and catches up quickly with age-appropriate jiu jitsu instruction.
Our current girls' jiu jitsu classes are a trial program running through August to gauge community interest and determine the best schedule for our Hampton roads families. If the program is successful, we will strongly consider continuing girls' martial arts classes into the fall semester. We'll keep all current families informed about future girls' jiu jitsu programming at Siren based on enrollment and feedback.
